On-Photography: Testing Video Stabilization on the YI M1 Version 3 Firmware!

LifePixel Digital Infrared Photography IR Conversion

So with the new version 3 firmware out, how does video stabilization work? Well since it is digital [stabilization] we know there will be some cropping so the smaller the resolution the likely better it will be. So we are going to take to the chilly November shores of Lake Huron and shoot some test video and see.

Note: the digital stabilization isn’t going to remove the jerkiness of my hand, yet should the shot. Now spoiler alert, watch the 4K version close then the 1080p. As the other thing I discover (if you can call it that) is the YI M1 needs a solid “focus” for the stabilization to work as what the computer inside the camera is doing, is finding reference points on each frame and digitally aligning them. So if the focus fall out or softens, the stabilization with lose the points and therefore stabilization will be lost

My summary: It is better then nothing, however far from pro and for a $300 camera it still is mind numbing the number of pro-sumer features it packs in and the fact YI keep improving it via firmware. So as an entry level camera on budget, I highly recommend it!
